We're back!

Hey everyone!

It has been a very long time since there has been a performance, but I'm working on becoming a more regular performer. In March, I started back at voice lessons in New Orleans. My teacher is incredible! She has me doing every audition opportunity possible. Now, I'm back on track and have several upcoming performances. I'm very excited about these opportunities.

The first opportunity is "Stage Door Idol" at the Stage Door Canteen in the World War II Museum in New Orleans. I auditioned a couple of weeks ago for a spot in the semi-finals. I was notified a few days later that I will be performing in the July 22nd semi-final performance! How exciting! I am thrilled about this opportunity! I think that the World War II Museum performances are one-of-a-kind. This particular performance is part of a competition. The setup of the competition is similar to American Idol. There are three judges that will assess the performances and provide feedback. The fourth judge is the audience. The votes from the judges and the audience will be tallied and the winners of each (there are 4) semi-final performance will proceed to the final round on August 12th. The one significant difference between Stage Door Idol and American Idol is about seven decades! Each singer is asked to prepare a song in the style of the 1940s and dress appropriately. I chose to sing "Someone to Watch Over Me" by George and Ira Gershwin. It is a lovely song. If you have not heard it, I highly recommend it. Ella Fitzgerald sang a beautiful rendition of it. I chose that song because I was familiar with it and I think it has such a gorgeous melody and the lyrics are sweet. I can't wait to perform it decked out in 1940's garb, including red lips and victory rolls. It will be nice to return to the stage after my six year hiatus. I am thrilled to be chosen as a semi-finalist! No matter how the results turn out, it is always nice to audition for the WWII museum. To have the opportunity to perform on that stage is a great honor! The work that the WWII museum does for our veterans is incredible, and incredibly deserved.

The second performance opportunity is at Rivertown Theatre in Kenner. I will be playing the role of the Fairy Godmother in the performance of Shrek the Musical. Those performances will be in September, so I will have another post later with more details. I am very excited and nervous about this role. It has been so long since I have been in a musical, I am anxious about the rehearsals. There was so much talent at the auditions, I hope that I can keep up. Like I said, it has been a veeeeery long time! I think I am most anxious about the dance rehearsals. It has been so long since I have taken a dance class and I was SO SORE after the dance call back. I miss dance so much! I still love practicing tap in the hallways and turns in the kitchen, but learning dances to perform them? That is a whole different ballgame! I'm not going to lie, it was so great learn that dance and perform it for the call back! I will keep everyone updated on that. If it takes a while between posts it's because my whole body is sore, from the top of my head to the tips of my fingers and toes!

I have started pursuing jazz music to perform in New Orleans. My voice teacher has a trio in town and has invited me to sit in on those performances. I will let everyone know when I perform. Hopefully you can come and enjoy the music! I would like to start pursuing more jazz opportunities in the near future. It is going to be a while before it becomes regular, but I will keep y'all updated!

Thanks so much for reading!
